"The first rose painting I ever made was eight years ago, having woken
from a vivid dream where I saw myself painting a huge blood red bloom,
my body ant-like against the gigantic folds of the petals. In real life
the painted canvas emerged at seven foot square and was to form a
dramatic backdrop to my life before I let it be sold to a good home.
Last year, roses as a subject matter lured me again and I have painted
then throughout my pregnancy and since the birth of my son, exploring
garden grown roses, multicoloured roses, cream, yellow, pink, purple and
red roses, finding enormous challenge in painting the fleshy forms which
became abstractions in colour at an enlarged scale."
