Maria Vryzakis, born and raised in Sydney, Australia, is currently living in New York City. Vryzakis's art is essentially personal, and this collection draws on her experiences growing up as a Greek Australian in the Eastern Suburbs, and traveling overseas as an Australian.

The works she has created for Flavour focus on language as representation of a culture. Vryzakis notes that "Australian English has developed its own unique language, which is colourful, raw and typically Australian" - and she has placed this language on the canvas in all its "ocker" glory. Australian humour, wit and verve is celebrated with the sensitivity of a true patriot far from home. Anyone who has ever lived in Australia, or traveled there, will instantly recognise these phrases, and immediately conjure their own remembrance of the Aussies they've left downunder.
